This is the best cherry cake recipe! Make your kitchen smell like heaven. A recipe from the cookbook of my grandmother, from her kitchen, where I could smell the best aromas in the world!
Measure with a regular cup (240 ml measuring cup)


  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 sachets vanilla sugar
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (or buttermilk)
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 sachet baking powder (2 tsp)
  • 400 g of sour cherries - frozen
  • 1 tbs semolina


  1. In a deep bowl, mix the eggs with a mixer at max speed by gradually adding the sugar and vanilla until they thicken (about 15 minutes).
  2. Then add the oil and yogurt, combine.
  3. Finally, add the previously mixed flour and baking powder. Mix until homogenized.
  4. This mixture is divided into two parts. Pour the first part into a greased and floured pan (in my case with dimensions 24x34 cm).
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 C (350 F) degrees for 15 minutes, then spread the cherries mixed with the semolina above this part, put the remaining half of the sponge cake mixture.
  6. Return to the oven, continue to bake until the cake starts catching color, then reduce temperature to 150 C (290 F) degrees and finish baking until cake is ready - check with a toothpick if the cake is ready.
  7. Let the baked cake cool down, then cut in pieces and put powdered sugar on top.
