The famous Vasina cake straight from my mother's notebook. I remember when I was a kid this cake was a hit among the housewives, and I was nothing special. I needed to grow up to understand why it was so special and beautiful and considered one of the best cakes in this area. This cake was made for Christmas and you can prepare it for the upcoming feast of St.Vasilij the great.

  • 5 eggs
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 7 tablespoons crushed nuts
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 sachet baking powder
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 sachets of vanilla sugar
  • 8 tablespoons sugar
  • 100 g chocolate
  • 125 ml of milk
  • 250 g of crushed nuts
  • 180 g margarine or butter
  • half a glass of orange juice
  • grated rind of 1 lemon
For sprinkling the biscuit
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 4 egg whites
  • 12 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup of water

For biscuit

  1. Mix the eggs well with the sugar using a mixer, add the ground nuts and the sifted flour with the baking powder and mix slowly with a wooden spoon.
  2. The mixture is poured into a paper-lined baking tray or into the desired pan, keeping in mind that the sponge cake will be your cake base. Here the sponge cake is divided into 2 lanes and the cake is with 2 biscuit layers.
  3. Bake at 180 C degrees for 15-20 minutes, check with a toothpick if it's ready.
  1. First the egg yolks are stirred, mixed with sugar and steamed briefly to boil until pasteurized. In the hot mixture the chocolate is added to melt. Mix and set aside to cool.
  2. Boil the milk and add the ground nuts and let cool.
  3. Once cooled, mix the margarine with the mixer, add the yolks and the ground walnuts, mix well and add the orange juice and lemon zest.
Split the biscuit into 2 strips, take one stripe, sprinkle with 1/4 orange juice and apply half-filling. Place the second layer and repeat the procedure.

Apply the egg white topping
Beat the whites well and boil the sugar with water for about 10 minutes. The prepared syrup is added drop by drop to the egg whites and continued to mix until the whole syrup is used. Apply the white mixture on top of the cake.
The cake is the most delicious to eat the next day.
