SWEET BREADS FOR IVANDEN (KRAVAYCHINJA)


Traditionally for the holiday Ivanden, many housewives, both in the city and in the villages, make sweet breads called "kravajchinja", especially the grandmothers for their grandchildren. Mostly they bring happiness to the children because of the colorful candies that decorate the sweets. In some parts of the country, kravajchinja are called "turte" and the recipe is similar.


Ingredients:
  • 500 g flour
  • 1 handful sugar
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 pack of vanilla sugar 10 g
  • 1 activated fresh yeast (40 g)
  • lukewarm water as needed (about 250 ml)
  • peel of grated lemon (optional)
  • lean colorful candies for decorating

For syrup (optional):
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water

Preparation:

1.The yeast is activated first with sugar, a little flour and lukewarm water.
2.Mix the flour, oil, activated yeast, vanilla sugar and lemon zest and knead the dough with lukewarm water.
3. After 10-15 minutes, you should get a fine soft non sticky dough. From the dough form breads in a circular shape. They are decorated with sweet colorful candies.
4. The breads are placed on a pan aligned with baking paper and left to stand to rise for about 30 minutes or more.
5. Bake at 180 C degrees for 10 minutes, then drop the temperature to 160 degrees and bake for another 15 minutes.
6. The hot water and sugar are mixed until the sugar is melted.
7. The sweet breads are poured with the sherbet 5 minutes before they're done and left to bake for another 5 minutes.
