Pretzel is one of the most popular bread products. It's made from dough in a twisted knot shape and sprinkled with salt on top. This is the perfect pretzels recipe which you definitely should try. Eating pretzels is a common thing during working week in Macedonia. I usually eat it with a glass of yogurt.

  • 4 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 50 g melted butter
  • 1 bag of yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water
*cup size is 250 ml 

For cooking:
  • 2 l water  
  • 5 tablespoons of baking soda
  1. Mix flour with yeast and add salt, sugar and melted butter. Add warm water and knead the dough. Let stand for an hour.
  2. Knead again and divide into 8 portions.
  3. Each portion knead into stripes, then shape the pretzels. Cook them in boiling water and soda about 30 seconds. Brush with egg yolk mixed with water and sprinkle with sea salt. 
  4. Bake in preheated oven at 230 degrees for 15 minutes.
