How to prepare a lasting, decorative orange with which you can enrich your New Year and Christmas decorations? Just easy, and the enjoyment is great. The pieces of orange prepared this way are durable, and you will see why.
You will need:
- 2 sliced oranges,
- wood varnish and a brush.
Preparation:
- Slice 2 oranges into pieces of the same thickness, about 5 mm, It's nice to use a tool to cut the circles straight and all the same thickness. If the oranges are very juicy, it is nice to wipe them after cutting with kitchen paper.
- Arrange them on a flat baking sheet aligned with baking paper and put to bake/dry for about 2 hours at 100 C (212 F) degrees.
- Flip them over from time to time so they dry evenly on both sides. Be careful not to get burned. Smaller pieces dry faster, so they might be ready sooner.
- After successful drying, leave them overnight.
- The next day, coat each on one side with wood varnish and let them dry. After a day or two, coat them on the other side as well.
